Speech Bubbles, 1992 - 94

Handwritten text on balloons, edition of 10 unique objects,
6 x 14 x 16 cm. In several private collections and the collection of Arts Council Norway.

“Only words and conventions can isolate us from the entirely undefineable something which is everything” - Alan Watts

These balloons are in a state of change. The images which show the balloons in transparent containers are installation views from an exhibition in 1994, while the remaining images are details of how they appear in 2009. The text on the balloons are written in a literary technique called stream of consciousness, in an effort to construct a language of my own thoughts. The balloons hung in my studio for several years, slowly deflating, turning into heaps of language which spoke of both the memory of childhood and the dematerialization of art.

- Bjørn Bjarre, 2009
